On Post in the Heat: Sun Safety Tips for the Season Ahead
As we head into the warmer months, many of our officers and team members are preparing for increased outdoor assignments — including concerts, summer events, and high-traffic venues. These posts often require long hours in the sun, sometimes with limited shade.
At United Security, safety always comes first — and that includes protecting yourself from heat and sun exposure while on duty.
Here are a few essential ways to stay safe and focused during hot-weather shifts:
Stay Hydrated – Bring a reusable water bottle and drink regularly, even if you’re not thirsty. Dehydration can set in quickly.
Use Sunscreen – Apply it before your shift and reapply as needed. UV rays are still strong on cloudy days.
Cover Up When Possible – Hats, sunglasses, and lightweight long sleeves can help block direct sun.
Find Shade on Breaks – Use downtime to cool off and reset when shade or air conditioning is available.
Heat-related illness can come on fast — so if you ever feel dizzy, lightheaded, or overheated, speak up. Your health is a priority.
Thank you for the professionalism and dedication you bring to every post, no matter the conditions. Let’s stay prepared and stay safe this summer.
