This weekend many of us will be overjoyed with the prospect of a three-day weekend as we celebrate Memorial Day. This holiday weekend is considered the official kick off of summer, but do we all understand the significance? For some quick market research, I polled my 21, 18, and 15-year-old about the meaning of Memorial Day. Disappointment hit me hard as I came to the realization that while I may of have pushed my kids on studying hard….I failed with some of the meat and potatoes that may be more important than a grade on a Geometry exam…no offense to Geometry. Below is what I shared with my kids so that while they are enjoying their long weekend, they take a step back and appreciate the significance of Memorial Day.
- Memorial Day is a celebration of honor for those who died in all America’s wars, as well as those who are Veterans and current members of the US military.
- It was first introduced after the Civil War as many observed the fatalities experience from both sides of that war.
- In 1971, Memorial Day became a national holiday, and is observed the last Monday of May.
On Monday, if you are fortunate to speak with an active member of the military or a veteran please thank them for their service, and dedication. Here at United Security, Inc. we have many employees who are Veterans, and we are thankful for their service. We would like to extend that same gratitude to our clients, and partners, and their veteran employees.
