Keeping the Court Safe – USI’s Game Day Security at Fairfield University

When the Fairfield Stags hit the court, there’s more happening behind the scenes than most people realize. It’s not just about the players, coaches, and roaring crowd, it’s also about the dedicated team from United Security Inc. (USI) that ensures everything runs smoothly. The team makes sure every fan, staff member, and player has a safe and enjoyable experience at both the men’s and women’s basketball games.
A Team That Works Together
Behind the excitement of every buzzer-beater is a team of professionals who understand the value of preparation and coordination. From the moment we step onto campus, our focus is on teamwork. It’s about more than just showing up, we’re there to make sure we’re ready for anything, whether it’s assisting a fan in need or managing access for VIP attendees.
Every game is an opportunity for our team to showcase their dedication and versatility. We hold regular pre-game meetings in person and virtually to discuss each game’s unique requirements, review team post assignments, and anticipate any challenges. It’s this preparation that allows us to operate with efficiency and confidence on game day.
What We Do
Our responsibilities extend far beyond what most people associate with game-day security and ushering. Managing access control is a critical task, ensuring only authorized individuals enter restricted areas like locker rooms, player zones, referee rooms, etc. Meanwhile, crowd management is just as important. Whether we’re assisting fans in finding their seats or ensuring entry and exit points remain clear, we aim to maintain a seamless and enjoyable experience for everyone in attendance.
Safety is another key part of our role. Our team is constantly vigilant, addressing potential hazards before they escalate. This proactive approach is paired with exceptional customer service, welcoming fans with a friendly demeanor, answering questions, and creating a positive atmosphere. Additionally, we manage parking and traffic control to ensure smooth arrivals and departures, which can often set the tone for the entire experience.
For high-profile games or special events, the stakes are even higher. Managing sold-out crowds and ensuring smooth operations for over 3,000 fans isn’t easy, but it’s a challenge we’re always ready to tackle. We coordinate closely with university staff, Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement to ensure all protocols align and game-day operations remain seamless.
Rising to the Challenge
One memorable moment came during a double-header event. (Kids day) The back-to-back games brought unique logistical challenges, but with careful planning and team coordination, we successfully managed transitions between crowds and maintained a positive experience for everyone in attendance.
One of the most remarkable nights, however, was when a high-profile college basketball coach attended a game. His presence drew a large crowd, creating heightened excitement and logistical challenges. Our team worked seamlessly to manage the surge, ensuring that fans had a safe and enjoyable experience while maintaining smooth access and movement throughout the venue. It was a night that showcased the value of preparation, professionalism, and teamwork.

Providing security, ushering, and parking services at Fairfield University isn’t just another contract for USI. It’s an opportunity to be part of a vibrant community. There’s a real sense of pride in knowing that we contribute to the excitement and energy that defines Fairfield Stags basketball. It’s about making connections, not just with school staff and players but with fans who make game day special.
