USI is proud to recognize Officer Michael Sloane for his exceptional dedication and consistent demonstration of our core values through his actions on duty.
During an early morning patrol, Officer Sloane was flagged down by a concerned individual who reported seeing a woman sitting outside a local CVS with her belongings scattered around. Officer Sloane approached the woman to check on her well-being and learned that she was homeless and struggling with the cold. Understanding her immediate need for comfort, he went to a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts and got her a warm cup of coffee. This small act of kindness helped ease her distress and allowed her to pack up and leave peacefully. Later that morning, the woman returned visibly upset, reporting that someone had stolen money from her. Sympathizing with her situation, Officer Sloane replaced the stolen amount from his own pocket and assured her that law enforcement would be involved if it happened again. Grateful for his compassion, she thanked him and remarked on the need for more people like him in the community.
In a separate incident, Officer Sloane was approached by employees from a nearby grocer who identified a man harassing their staff. Acting swiftly, he contacted local police to address the issue and explained the situation on-site. Despite an initially tense interaction with one of the responding officers, Officer Sloane remained composed and professionally communicated the property management’s decision to trespass the individual. His persistence ensured the individual left without further issues, restoring peace to the workplace.
Through these actions, Officer Sloane exemplifies what it means to serve with integrity, empathy, and professionalism. His efforts not only ensure safety but also foster a sense of care and community. Thank you, Officer Sloane, for going above and beyond in your role.
