This month our USI employee profile is on Security Officer Jamil Wilson. Jamil is similar to so many of the Security Officer’s that we employ. He is loyal, smart, inquisitive, hardworking, reliable, and dedicated. What many are not aware of is that Jamil has another side to him – his stage name is Jahan Nostra. Jahan Nostra is a musician and rapper who is fighting every day to balance his work / life and passion of making it as a Rap artist.
Jamil Wilson has worked as a Security Officer at a well-known Hedge Fund for the last fourteen years. The last seven have been as an employee at United Security, Inc. His professional demeanor over the years have gained the trust and support of the executives at the highest level of this Hedge Fund. Many of these employees know about his alter ego Jahan Nostra and attend his concerts. He cites the interaction with the Hedge Fund employees, the civil war history of the building, and camaraderie of his fellow security officers as highlights of his security role. He is especially proud that the fund stock traders play his music on the company wide speakers before the market opens as inspiration. Knowing they are playing his music as motivation reminds Jamil of the impact his art can bring to others.
Jamil began his career at 15 (he is now 33) when he was signed to independent record label BMX Entertainment. This launched Jamil into the very real world of music and rap music. Here he learned not only the music side, and struggle of being a working rap artist but in his view more importantly the business side. Talking with Jamil you can’t help but be overwhelmed with his warm personality, and positive message. He lives by the Life Moto – Reflect Reality / Prove that I’m the “ill-est” (meaning the best) and uplift for the future. Which translates into taking responsibility, believing in yourself, and working hard today for a brighter future.
Jamil is an inspiration for anyone who is chasing a dream, and doing the hard work to make ends meet. Jamil works full time at United Security, Inc, and spends the rest of his time recording, writing, and promoting his music as Jahan Nostra.
