This month, Dan McCallum responded to a medical emergency involving a passenger on a public transit bus. The call was initiated through 911, reporting that the individual was experiencing a seizure. Upon his arrival, Dan assessed the situation and promptly notified dispatch that it was an overdose involving an individual in their early 20s.

He administered Narcan to the individual via the nostril but did not observe an immediate response. As the individual’s condition worsened, Dan worked with the bus driver to evacuate the other passengers from the bus. This allowed him to safely place the individual in a recovery position while using a protective CPR mask to begin rescue breathing, avoiding direct mouth-to-mouth contact as he awaited further medical assistance.

Dan’s quick thinking and decisive actions were truly heroic, ensuring the individual received vital assistance until the Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services arrived. The individual was then transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

We can’t thank Dan enough for his courage and bravery during this critical moment, as he did everything he could until the emergency services arrived.
